Classic Hour

Michael Tracy

Michael Tracy has been a resident on Vashon for over 7 years. Before moving to Vashon Michael lived for over 25 years in Manhattan.

During his time in NYC Michael sat on several non-profit boards: 1) Advisory Board member of the Wooster Group since 1983; 2) President of Classic Stage Company Repertory Theater from 1991-1996; 3) President of Out Professionals, NY’s largest LGBT professional organization from 1998-2008, and 4) Vashon Center for the Arts since August 2018.

Michael hosted house concerts in his NYC loft where musicians performed works of their choice for usually 40 persons in an intimate setting where often listeners were experiencing these musical works for their first time. Among the artists who performed at Michael’ s loft were Philip Glass, Jeff Zeigler (former cellist with the Kronos Quartet), Paola Prestini – now director of National Sawdust, Thomas Meglioranza (Winner of Vienna Schubert Lieder Competition), conductor and pianist Tim Long, and many others.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia Michael attended Georgia State University and earned two degrees: a Bachelor in Music, concentration in Musicology as well as a Bachelor in Economics. Though Michael has played piano since age 7, he chose not to pursue music as a profession but as a vocation.

In spring 2018 Michael gave three multi-media lectures at VCA first on Franz Schubert, then Frederick Chopin, and finally on Franz Liszt with live performances of the composers’ works with local Vashon and Seattle musicians.

Michael looks forward to programming his radio hour show “Classic Hour” which will introduce listeners to music written from 1700 to today along with biographical information on the composers and historical insight into their era.
