It might seem odd for a man raised in the suburbs of Cincinnati to take an in-depth interest in music related to Texas, but if you have ever lived in Texas, you would understand.

Expanding one’s musical horizon from the Grateful Dead, the Stones, Neil Young, Eric Clapton and the like is not a stretch once you go into Antone’s club, wrap your hand around a cold Lone Star longneck and see Jimmie or Stevie Ray Vaughan or Ian Moore. Or you have friends take you to The Broken Spoke and teach you how to two-step while listening to Gary P. Nunn or the Texas swing of Asleep at the Wheel. Walk into the Cactus Café and listen to Lyle Lovett or hear Toni Price sing her version of the blues at The Continental Club. Maybe most important, have a friend who has tickets to Austin City Limits that she seldom wants for herself.

Boogie Back to Texas, hosted by Geoff Fletcher, celebrates all kinds of music from musicians who have lived in Texas, weaves connections among them and provides additional perspectives from guests who have played or lived there. As Lyle says, “That’s right you’re not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway.”
