Bruce & Bob Ride the Divide – Episode 12 – Final Push

October 17th, 2022 by Jeff Hoyt

After 2,500 miles on gravel bikes along the Great Divide Trail, Bruce Morser is finding the final 200 miles to be among the most difficult. It’s not so much about grade or elevation as it is the weather. Spin-off storm remnants from Hurricane Ian have kept the rain pouring down, forcing Bruce and King Harald to don their storm gear and look for paved road that points them south. In the final days of the ride, with a deadline looming, Jeff Hoyt & Bob Horsley talk to Bruce about how he decided to either make a dash for the Mexican border or just give up the ghost and declare the ride finished.

Bruce & King Harald finally had to leave the comfort of their motel on Rt. 66 and head south through the rain.

One final rainstorm off in the distance near Hachita, NM on the penultimate day of the ride.

Bruce’s final desert campsite on the last morning of the ride. Breakfast? Mashed potatoes, chicken and gravy.

And spoiler alert if you scroll this far before listening: Bruce made it to the border!
