PSA – Whole Vashon Project – Shop Talk

November 11th, 2021 by VoV

Unless you are hiding out somewhere in the Amazon jungle, you are probably aware that the world we live in now is pretty messed up. Between the disasters of climate change and inescapable pandemic it feels a lot as if Mother Nature is taking us to task for the lousy job we’ve been doing stewarding the planet that was loaned to us. Yeah, it’s pretty bad. You could just throw up your hands and hide out in the Amazon jungle, but it’s not safe there either: every day more of it is burned and bulldozed. What to do?

Well, there are a lot of people on Vashon who are just as concerned about these problems as you are, and some of them have gotten together to create the Whole Vashon Project, which is holding a series of online community forums called Shop Talk, conversations which are focused on sustainability, consumerism and climate change. And the first of these free events will be held on Wednesday, December 1st, from 6:30 to 7:30PM. Host, Siobhan McComb of One Glass Jar, will take aim at the wretched excess of holiday consumerism in a talk called “Unshopping the Holidays” with tips of how to reduce your personal consumerism during the holiday season. The link is posted on Facebook, on the Vashon Time Exchange and Zero Waste Vashon websites as well as the Whole Vashon Project group page. “Unshopping the Holidays”.

This has been a Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement.
