Tech Talk for Boaters!

March 15th, 2023 by Yacht Club

Here’s one way to tell that the Island has pretty much passed through the most intimidating aspects of the COVID-19 scare. The Vashon Yacht Club is happy to be once again presenting its indispensable Boating Tech Talks, and the date and time of return is Wednesday, March 22nd at 6PM in the Vashon Library Meeting Room. The subject is one of the most vital for all boaters: The Marine Rules of the Road. With no lane markers or traffic signals on the water an entirely different set of rules to avoid collisions is needed. Which vessels have priority? Which vessel must give way in collision scenarios and what makes waters unsafe for travel? What about sound signals and obligations when traveling in the fog, and what are the ins and outs of the Canadian bouyage system? Video of the recent collision of a private pleasure vessel and the Washington State Ferry Chetzemoka will be screened: find out who the US Coast Guard found at fault. Attendees are encouraged to share their own rules of the road stories. The return of the Tech Talk. Wednesday, March 22nd at 6 PM in the Library Meeting Room. This has been a Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement, Safe Sailing Department.
