Yacht Club Tech Talk!

March 25th, 2023 by Jeff Hoyt

What the heck. You’re out on your boat. Everyone says what great cruising it is in the San Juans and Desolation Sound and now you’re in a mess crossing the Georgia Strait. Maybe you’re an experienced mariner, maybe you’re a freshman mariner, doesn’t matter. The Georgia Strait is a problem for everyone. And to think how easy it would have been for you to have known about this stuff in the first place and how to handle it. You should have gone to the Yacht Club Tech Talk on Wednesday, April 12th at 6PM in the Library Meeting Room. You would have found out all about the straits, narrows and rapids. You would have found out how to get into and anchor in the rocks and coves, so picturesque and so hazardous. You would have found out that the true joy of cruising is managing the risks and enjoying the rewards: the mastering of routes, wind and weather conditions, dealing with currents and narrows on the way to the beauties of the journey from Anacortes to Desolation Sound. And then you would have been able to talk about your experience at the next Tech Talk, just like the boaters did at the one you missed. The Yacht Club Tech Talk on the San Juans, Canadian Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound at 6PM in the Library Meeting Room. Pity you couldn’t make it. This has been a Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement, Mariners’ Friend Department.
