Join the Vashon community Sunday, April 12th, in welcoming Dr. Sheela Sathyanarayana, of Seattle Children’s Research Institute, for an informative session on the harms of plastic, particularly to children.

This free event will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM at Vashon United Methodist Church, thanks to the efforts of Choose Plastic Free, a campaign from Zero Waste Vashon, with support from Vashon Youth and Family Services and the Vashon Health Care District. The talk, followed by a Q&A, will focus on the health implications of plastic use and how parents can learn to minimize exposure.

Dr. Sheela Sathyanarayana is a professor of pediatrics and adjunct professor of environmental and occupational health sciences at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Research Institute, where she is associate director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development. She conducts research focused on endocrine-disrupting chemicals in plastics, including phthalates and bisphenol A in pregnancy and childhood health outcomes.

Este evento gratuito se llevará a cabo de 14:00 a 16:00 h en la Iglesia Metodista Unida de Vashon, gracias a la iniciativa de Choose Plastic Free y Zero Waste Vashon, con el apoyo de los Servicios para Vashon Youth and Family Services y el Distrito de Atención Médica de Vashon. La charla, seguida de una sesión de preguntas y respuestas, se centrará en las implicaciones del uso del plástico para la salud y en cómo los padres pueden aprender a minimizar su exposición.

La Dra. Sheela Sathyanarayana es profesora de pediatría y profesora adjunta de ciencias ambientales y salud ocupacional en la Universidad de Washington y en el Instituto de Investigación Infantil de Seattle, donde es directora asociada del Centro de Salud, Comportamiento y Desarrollo Infantil. Realiza investigaciones centradas en los disruptores endocrinos presentes en los plásticos, como los ftalatos y el bisfenol A, y su impacto en la salud durante el embarazo y la infancia.
