Margaret Roncone recently completed her two-year term as Vashon’s Poet Laureate. In this episode, we talk about what the position represents and how poetry contributes to our community.
Margaret began writing poetry in high school and has sustained a daily writing practice ever since, drawing continual inspiration from the island’s natural beauty. She is the author of A Sleeve of Blue and co-author, with two other poets, of Three Birds Dreaming.
As Vashon’s seventh Poet Laureate—a grassroots, community-organized program founded by Ron Irvine of Vashon Winery—Margaret championed poetry’s local presence. She launched a series of open-mic events, now hosted at the Vashon Heritage Museum, and introduced a Little Free Library for Poetry.
