When he was 18, an accident changed the course of DavidCole’s life forever. Living with a severe traumatic brain injury ever since, David has found ways to meet life with humor, creativity, and an enduring sense of joy. He even wrote a book about his experience. Join David and his mother, Wendy Wharton, for a conversation about resilience and the many forms creativity can take.

David was a high school graduate with a promising future as an engineer when he was struck by a car while riding his bike. The traumatic brain injury he sustained reshaped his life in profound ways. In his book, The Illiad of the Odd D.C., David chronicles his journey since the accident—offering a deeply personal and often surprising account of adaptation and meaning-making.
Today, David lives with his mother, Wendy Wharton. He is a familiar and welcome presence at the Senior Center, where he enjoys the community lunches held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
David and Wendy are generously offering free copies of his book to anyone who is interested. To request a copy, please contact Wendy at 206-463-4040.
