COMMUNITY ADVISORY VOICE OF VASHON REPORTS THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the high 80s from Monday July 20th through Wednesday July 22nd. Many of us in the Pacific Northwest aren’t used to these temperatures. When we can’t cool down enough, even from sweating, heat can make us sick, and even cause damage to our brains and other vital organs. Get ready to keep yourself and your family safe from the heat. Anyone can be affected by heat, but it can be more dangerous for children and older adults; outdoor workers; individuals experiencing homelessness or living unsheltered; households without access to cooling resources; athletes and people who exercise outdoors; and people with chronic health conditions, including mental health conditions. Stay hydrated – water is best (add electrolytes if you want). Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages. Keep to the shady spots. Cities can get hotter than rural places with trees and open water. Prevent cold water shock, and wear a life jacket – the air is warm, but lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound are still very cold. Limit vigorous activities, especially during the hottest part of the day. Take frequent breaks. Move outdoor activities indoors, or consider cancelling them. Go to a cool place, such as the library, if your home doesn’t have air conditioning. NEVER leave young children, older loved ones, or pets in a vehicle during warmer weather. Cars can get dangerously hot in seconds or minutes when outside temperatures are in the 70s or 80s. Trouble signs: muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and vomiting. If you have any of these symptoms, move to the shade or indoors, put your feet up and rest, and drink lots of water.

Beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, at 7 am, crews will close 91st Avenue SW between SW Dilworth Road and SW 167th Street to replace an underground pipe.

The road will be closed in both directions, 24/7, to all travelers, including emergency services and bicycles. All travelers must use alternative routes.

The road is anticipated to re-open on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:59 pm. This work may be rescheduled or delayed due to machine, crew, or equipment availability or weather.
