Episode # 15 –
On June 14, 1775 The Continental Congress created the Continental Army and appointed George Washington as commander in June 1775. This established the principle of the Unites States military being subordinate to civilian authority. The suspicion of standing a standing army and of too much central government control supported this principle. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1778 further enshrined this principle.
