The Battle of Bunker Hill fought on June 17, 1775 was a pyric victory for the British. Although the Americans withdrew, the British lost significant number of troops and of their officer corps. This made the British more cautious in future engagements, led them to hire Hessian mercenaries, and reinforced the American’s belief that they could confront British military might.
