Episode # 7 – The Townsend Acts and Resistance to Government Retaliation, June 29,1767

The five Acts of Parliament collectively known as The Townsend Acts after the Chancellor of the Exchequer Charles Townsend were a effort by the British Government to both regulate and punish the American colonies for resistance to the Stamp Act. The colonists saw these actions as a direct attack on their rights as English citizens and on their ability to manage their own affairs.
