Situation

As of 10:00am today, all power is out for Vashon Island. Puget Sound Energy crews are assessing damage from this morning’s wind. The PSE website indicates power for many customers could be restored by midnight tonight.

School
Vashon Island School District has called an early release day due to the power outage, but plans on having a full day of school tomorrow but will announce any change to that plan early tomorrow morning.
The early release schedule from the District says:
McMurray and VHS Early Release: 12:00 p.m.
Chautauqua Elementary Early Release: 1:00 p.m.
West Seattle Commuter Ferry: 12:40 p.m. & 1:40 p.m.
Southworth Commuter Ferry: 12:35 p.m.& 2:00 p.m.

Tips
Don’t go near any downed wires. Assume any downed wire could be an electrical line and that it may be live.
Keep freezers and refrigerators closed to conserve cooling.
If you have a generator, use it only outdoors and away from windows.
Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home.
Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.
Don’t forget your vehicle can be an excellent charging station and its radio can be a helpful source of information, including listening to alerts on 1650AM.
