The Blues Adventure with Java

My interest in the Blues started at a young age- long before the internet, smart phones, even computers! Learning about new music, i.e. anything not in the “Top 40” was a challenge. So I feel fortunate to have begun my adventure about the same time I was becoming aware of Pop music. I distinctly remember the first time I heard John Mayall’s “Room To Move”when KOL fm started it’s “underground” format. I was hooked.

After making my way to downtown Seattle’s only record store I knew of – The Bon Marche….I traveled up to the 6th (?) floor, thumbed through the records and found…..John Mayall! I couldn’t wait to get home and play the record. When I did, I learned something else about music. Musicians and bands put out more than one album and the one that I got, Blues from Laurel Canyon, didn’t have Room to Move. Alas….this was the beginning of my Blues Adventure since it opened me up to even more music.

While some music listeners are much more thoughtful and methodical in their listening habit, mine have been more like what I consider a good adventure – having a general destination in mind, but having the freedom and flexibility to wander around to places unplanned. For me, one musician or song has often led to another and from there to others.

It’s been and continues to be a great trip. So my show is just a continuation of a life long Blues Adventure -I hope you’ll stop in for a listen. Mondays 7 to 8 pm.

As listeners that listen closely to Blues Adventures with Java (both of you) can attest, the last few years my show has been “on repeat”. I enjoyed producing this show but decided that I wanted to spend the time it took to invest in other endeavors. I am grateful that the Voice of Vashon has wanted to continue to broadcast and stream these archived shows. Apologies for the occasional dated references contained herein.
