The T.G.I.F Show

The T.G.I.F. Show, Thank Goodness It’s Funky

“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing”

Bubber Miley, a trumpeter with Duke Ellington, originated that phrase while explaining to Ellington why customers weren’t dancing.

Then along came James Brown who found a whole new way to get people up and dancing…funk music. Ever since the Funk Bomb went off in ’65, musicians have been excited about applying the funk genre to their own music, no matter what genre.

Hi, I’m Bob Stolk and I invite you to join me Fridays between 11 pm and Midnight for a fun audio adventure exploring the evolution of funk music and the big effect it’s had on other genres. Spoiler alert: I am not a funk purist and this show is not limited to one funk style either.

And while you are here, click one of the past shows below, and get funky anytime.
