Annie Brule: Life with an Artist’s Eye

November 2nd, 2024 by Sally Jean Fox

Annie Brulé has been creating since she got her artistic start as a student on Vashon Island three decades ago—and never stopped. We talk about her awe-filled approach to art, nature—and motherhood. Today, Annie’s plate is full as a naturalist illustrator for books, an educator, and the co-founder of the publishing and arts company Chatwin Books, established in 2014, where she serves as the Creative Director. She’s nurturing the creative spirit of her two young kids,

Chatwin has expanded as a publisher, fine art and book printer, and now art gallery in Pioneer Square Seattle, with an international audience.

Annie grew up on Vashon in the 1980’s and 90’s, studied studio art and anthropology at Vassar and Lewis & Clark Colleges, and taught illustration at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle for several summers. She now lives with her husband and kids on Vashon, where she adores kayaking, bicycling, and teaching art to folks of all ages. You can find Annie’s art prints in retail shops in Seattle and Vashon Island, and a few of her large murals on Vashon, including at both locations of Nashi Orchards.

Check out her wonderful offering of prints and notecards on her website!
