AFTER SNOW ADVISORY IMPACTS-UPDATE
This is a message from various agencies: Sub-freezing temperatures, snow accumulations, and challenging road conditions continue for Vashon and Maury islands. Low temperatures and more snow accumulations are in the forecast for the rest of this week.
FERRIES:The Point Defiance/Tahlequah route is out of service until further notice due to an issue with the hoist motor at the Tahlequah terminal. Customers traveling to and from Vashon Island will need to go through the northern terminal and route through Southworth or Fauntleroy (West Seattle). Travelers should also give themselves extra time to get to their destination as there may be longer waits at the Vashon Terminal due to increased traffic.Two-boat service has resumed on the north end triangle route (Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth).The Vashon Island Water Taxi was canceled today due high winds causing unsafe conditions at the Vashon dock. PSE:There are still some PSE customers on Maury Island without power with restoration times of this morning. Use the MyPSE app on your smartphone to view the outage map and report outages, or call 888-225-5773 to report an outage. Treat any downed power lines as if they are live – stay at least 35 feet away, and do not drive or walk over them.
ROADS:Road conditions are still hazardous on the secondary streets so please be careful if you need to drive today. If walking on roads, stay off to the side to leave extra space for vehicles. To report blocking problems on roads, such as downed trees, call 206-477-8100.
METRO:Metro for Vashon/Maury is not running today as the snow schedule is in effect. Metro is operating its Emergency Snow Network at the start of service on Monday, December 27, until further notice. Metro will reassess daily whether snow clearing efforts have adequately improved road conditions and determine if there is sufficient staffing and buses to restore service and operate the broader all-day transit network. EMERGENCY SHELTERING: Call IFCH at 206-643-5169 for limited emergency housing, or call 2-1-1 for help accessing emergency overnight shelters. Public daytime warming options on Vashon include:* Vashon Presbyterian Church – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 10am till 12 noon (hand and foot warmers will be offered).* Vashon Library – Tuesday and Wednesday from 1pm to 8pm, Thursday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.   HEATHCARE PROVIDERS:Vashon Natural Medicine is closed today.Sea Mar clinic on Vashon is open regular hours today, but with limited capacity. No COVID vaccinations or testing. LOCAL STORES:Vashon Thriftway is open today from 8am to 9pm.Vashon Market IGA is open today until 8pm ( a 2 hour early closure). Vashon pharmacy will be open from 9am until 5pm today, operating with reduced staffing.Vashon Ace Hardware is open until 7pm.Island Lumber is open until 7pm. COVID-19:The MRC Testing Hotline is available for testing appointments and information at 844-469-4554.Register for COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters at https://vashonpharmacy.com/covid/. GARBAGE AND RECYCLING: Murrey’s Disposal has suspended pickup service today, requesting that customers double up on their next pickup days for both trash and recycling. ESPANOLContinúan las temperaturas bajo cero, acumulación de nieve y carreteras y caminos peligrosos en las islas de Vashon y Maury.  Se espera que las bajas temperaturas y acumulación de nieve, continúen por esta semana. FERRIES:·       La ruta de Point Defiance/Tahlequah está fuera de servicio hasta nuevo aviso porque el motor de la plataforma está descompuesto. Los residentes viajando hacia y fuera de la isla tendrán que usar el ferry de la estación norte, ya sea en dirección hacia Southworth o Fauntleroy, hacia West Seattle.
