Voice Of Vashon

Phil Mahurin was in a group that did pacification in local Vietnamese villages. He played a clarinet in a fairly large band in the villages and worked with doctors and dentists to provide services to the villagers.

Mike Allen graduated several years behind me from Ellensburg High School. He was a Marine, did his duty and got back to the world.

Jim McFarland graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1965. He supervised a squad of soldiers who repaired Chinook helicopters in Vietnam.

Lloyd Webster graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1966 and joined the marines. He served in Vietnam repairing highly complex components of jet planes who used auto-pilot.

Mike Dorsey graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1966. He served the army in Vietnam as a combat soldier and as a machine gunner on a Huey or “slick”.

Dennis Larsen taught school with me at Chinook Junior High School in the Highline School District in 1972.   During the time he spent in Vietnam he was with an elite group of soldiers who trained with dogs and served as point-men to search out and find Viet Cong and report their location.   He […]
