July 15th, 2024 by Sally Jean Fox

In this interview, Brian Fisher, one of Vashon’s veteran artists, and I talk about the deeper dimensions of what art is or can be. He discusses his path from a kid interested in myth to an accomplished artist working as a printmaker, painter, assemblage and architectural illustrator.

Brian has been a long time supporter of the arts on Vashon, through his work with VIVA (Vashon Island Visual Artists), Quartermaster Press, Vashon Center for the Arts, and others.

As a professional artist, he is represented by Roby King Gallery on Bainbridge Island, Washington and shows regularly on Vashon Island, Washington. He is a member of Seattle Print Arts and of the print studio Quartermaster Press.

He is currently a partner of the architectural illustration firm Presentation Arts. In addition to his work as an illustrator, painter and printmaker, Fisher teaches Monotype print workshops in his studio.

From his Artist Statement: The art I make begins as story. Sometimes the narrative is personal. Often it may be personally relevant but falls within the realm of myth. My interpretation of the myth and telling of the story is informed by print process….
