Home Care Aides Wanted and Needed

October 4th, 2024 by Jeffrey L Hoyt

I think most of us probably know about the Department of Social and Health Services, what it does for Washingtonians and how important what it does is: we can apply for state-funded in-home health care and a Home Care Aide will show up at your doorstep to go to work. One small problem, though. Vashon is running out of Home Care Aides. The same thing happened about three years ago and the solution now is the same as it was then: the Vashon Care Network is offering six new Home Care Aide scholarships to beef up Vashon’s home care capabilities. Great idea, right? Maybe a bolt from heaven for someone whose post-high school plans are not yet firmed up. Three of the scholarships come from a grant the Senior Center got from the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy and the other three come from the Vashon Care Network itself. The full scholarship will cover tuition for the basic 75-hour training for the Home Care Aide, a totally online program provided by Cornerstone Healthcare Training. And, fear not, all other fees – testing, certification and transportation are also covered. Applicants need to fill out an application at the Vashon Care Network website and submitted online before October 25th. Final candidates will be interviewed with selection complete by November 22nd, 2024. All applicants will be notified by November 25, 2024 and instruction will begin the week of December 9, 2024. This has been a Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement, Unexpected Options Department.
