August 5th, 2024 by Sally Jean Fox

Having created one of the best-selling hits of the 90’s, “How to Save a Life,” with the rock band The Fray, Isaac Slade left the band in 2022 to save, or at least change, his life. He’d been their lead singer for twenty years. He’s an American musician, community leader, proud dad, and owner of the vinyl record store, Side Stack Records on Vashon located next door to VOV.
We talk about life on the road, the perils of early success, his new life on Vashon, his commitments, and his thoughts about things to come.
As  lead singer of  the  Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock band The Fray, Isaac  toured the globe. The Fray released  four albums and a greatest hits record. Their debut album, How To Save a Life, sold three million copies worldwide.  Slade left the band in 2022 to pursue a simpler life as a dad on Vashon, and bought Side Stack records in December 2023.
In his life as a community leader, Isaac  co-chairs a music education initiative with Colorado Governor Jared Polis, aiming to provide universal music access for every K-12 student in Colorado. He also works with several organizations in the fight to end human trafficking.
Isaac is currently working on a variety of entrepreneurial and creative projects.
