Lynn Greiner: The creative as community activist
February 1st, 2025 by Salky Jean Fox
Although creativity is often associated with the arts, it is equally essential to community activism. After a distinguished career as a lawyer dedicated to public service, Lynn Greiner has played a pivotal role in the acquisition and restoration of the Mukai Farm and Garden. And, she’s also an artist.
A Washington native, Lynn is a long-time community activist, a lawyer, a historic preservationist, a non-profit consultant, a ceramist, and currently is active with the Mukai Farm & Garden. She loves to work on community projects that benefit the greater good.
As a lawyer, Lynn spent years in Seattle providing legal services—focusing on income stabilization and recovery support for the injured and disabled. She also served as executive director of a nonprofit legal services office and later staffed a statewide project to develop self-help legal materials for individuals navigating the court system on their own.
Her deep interest in the nonprofit sector led her to the University of Washington mid-career, where she earned a degree in nonprofit management and development. She received extensive training in fundraising, board development, strategic planning, and more—skills that have proven invaluable in various settings over the years.
Since 2012, Lynn has been deeply involved in the restoration and operation of the Mukai Farm & Garden. She spearheaded a four-year legal battle to reclaim Mukai from a dysfunctional board, working with a large cadre of pro bono lawyers. Over the years, she has served as a board member, fundraiser, and leader of the Fruit Barreling Plant restoration effort. With construction set to finish in early 2026, this milestone will mark the 100th anniversary of the building and the launch of the emerging Vashon local food hub.
In her spare time, Lynn has several creative outlets: she is a ceramicist, an avid gardener, works on historic home remodel projects for family and friends, and is currently working to oppose draconian federal policies.
