Marcy Summers ~ Fueled by Love, a Creative Approach to Conservation

August 2nd, 2024 by Sally Jean Fox

Marcy Summers talks about how she brought her diverse background, together with her love of nature and concern for the environment, to her work with the Alliance for Tompotika Conservation, (AlTo) an organization birthed with support from Vashon Islanders. Today AlTo helps the people and natural environment of  Sulawesi, Indonesia.

How does one leave the security of working for an established organization to start and sustain an independent conservation organization, the Alliance for Tompotika Conservation?

And how can love join forces with science and data to support efforts for conservation and social change?

Marcy’s organization, The Alliance for Tompotika Conservation (AlTo) is committed to helping all of nature, including people, thrive. The work is centered in Sulawesi, Indonesia–one of Earth’s most unique biological treasure-houses. At the invitation of local communities, AlTo forges partnerships to protect and restore imperiled species, tropical rainforests, and other natural ecosystems while supporting the dignity and self-sufficiency of local communities in a changing world.

Listen to Marcy’s recent talk at the Vashon Center for the Arts describing AlTo’s work and some of its remarkable successes.
