Mobilize for Democracy!

April 27th, 2024 by Jeff Hoyt

For anyone who may be experiencing distress over the upcoming November elections, a pair of Island organizations has coalesced to provide the remedy – TAKE ACTION! On Saturday, May 18, Indivisible Vashon and the Vashon-Maury chapter of Showing UP for Racial Justice (SURJ) will host “Beyond Our Bubble,” a mobilizing for Democracy Fair, at the Land Trust building from noon to 2pm. This is a free drop-in event complete with refreshments, kid friendly activities and free copies of the book On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. The main event — Island activists will be on hand to help visitors identify their personal paths to action. There will opportunities to sign up to make phone calls, send texts, write postcards, and more to get out the vote beyond our Vashon bubble to elect progressives across Washington State and in must-win swing states. This year’s elections are critical, not only to keep the White House in Democratic hands, but also for ‘down ballot’ elections that are crucial to maintaining democracy in the House and Senate. Individuals who take action truly WILL make a difference in this election by getting people out to vote. The Fair offers an opportunity to make YOUR plan to convert worries into positive action for the future of America. Do More, Worry Less.
