Mukais Studio Ghibli Festival

June 7th, 2024 by Jeff Hoyt

It’s back, and aren’t we just the lucky ones! Starting on June 25, the Friends of Mukai will once again reprise the popular Mukai Studio Ghibli Festival series, scheduled for every two weeks in partnership with Vashon Theatre. Over the years, Studio Ghibli has produced remarkable and artistically significant animations such Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and last year’s Academy Award winning, The Boy and the Heron. Join your neighbors on Tuesday, June 25th at the Vashon Theatre at 7PM for Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, a post-apocolyptic movie from 1984 about how the Princess struggles to unite warring kingdoms amid the chaos caused by environmental destruction. You will be notified in a PSA like this as the rest of the Festival line-up screens: in July, Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away; and, in August, My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke. For additional information about the shows go to the Mukai website, www.mukaifarmandgarden.org. This has been a Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement, Long Live Anime Department.
