Phil Grabsky ~ Documentary Film Director: Showcasing Great Art on Screen

On October 29th, at 7 pm, the Vashon Theatre will screen the award-winning documentary My Childhood, My Country: Twenty Years in Afghanistan by British director/producer Phil Grabsky—followed by a Q and A. In this first episode of a two-part interview, Phil speaks about the state of independent documentaries and the challenges of following the life of a boy and his family for twenty years in war-torn Afghanistan.

Phil Grabsky is an award-winning documentary filmmaker with multiple awards for directing, writing, producing, and cinematography. His film My Childhood, My Country – 20 Years in Afghanistan has received over a dozen awards, including Best Single Documentary at the 2022 Television BAFTAs.

Throughout his 40-year career, Grabsky has created over 250 films, screened in cinemas and across TV and digital platforms globally. His work spans social documentaries, historical films, and art-focused productions. His standout series, Exhibition on Screen, offers viewers an exclusive look at major museum exhibitions while diving deeper into the lives and work of renowned artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Monet, Mary Cassatt, Frida Kahlo, David Hockney, and Lucian Freud.
