Susan McCabe arrived on Vashon Island directly from Chicago, and almost never looked back.  She came with a background in small market radio news and big market international advertising, PR, and events production.  She answered the siren call to start an Internet radio station with a small pack of other radio refugees around 2000, and she’s been a part of Voice of Vashon since.  She was the first Executive Director when VoV got its FM license in 2014 just as she exited an administrative post at the Vashon Park District.

Since VoV’s inception, Susan has hosted The Wednesday Morning Scramble, Venus Envy (about men’s feelings), Island Extras (news), talk shows REALTalk and A Vashon Minute, and she gleefully co-hosted The Klatch with VoVers Linda Nygaard and Heidi Skryzypek during COVID and beyond.  She is the author of Hot Flashes Cold Showers, a book about life’s ‘educational’ moments, and works as a freelance writer/editor/producer from her home.

She is also an unapologetic activist  for racial justice and American democracy.  Susan lives on Vashon Island with her husband, musician Luke McQuillin, her dog Nutmeg and a variety of beloved birds who populate her front yard sanctuary.
